The building was built in 1828.

It served until 1889 as a merchant's house. In 1889, I. P. Jensen took over the operation of the colonial and hardware department. In 1915 he closed the colonial business, and soon after also the hardware department. All that remained was the iron and steel business.

Most people from Kolding of slightly older vintages remember I. P Jensen as the shop where you could buy fittings and tools as well as nails and screws in bulk.

In 1998, the building was demolished to make way for a new building, which today houses Sinnerup.
