Kolding's oldest kindergarten is Kolding Children's Asylum. It was built in 1868.
There was room for 100 children, and nothing was paid for childcare. The economy was based on gifts from private individuals supplemented by income from bazaars, children's aid days, etc.
In 1954, the kindergarten moved to Søgade, after which the children's asylum was demolished.
Today there is a green area on the site adjacent to the Castle Bank.
